Duration: 80 minutes .
Symptoms: A group of students in paleontology, led by Professor Lovecraft (yes, like the writer), they go to a volcano in northern Turkey in search of fossils. At the same time a U.S. commando operations in the area for international terrorists (you know who is the favorite of the Yankees). Since no two without three, the convulsions of the volcano itself expose a good number of eggs in Pterodactyl. The encounter between the three groups are not going to wait.
Diagnosis: Since the previous review about a cold night death, mentioned how in the 70's the fantasy genre was treated in the field of production TV with great knowledge of the facts and special care through the work of top professionals in each and every one of the following sections: performers, directors, writers ... who came to continue the work that the great artisans of the series b were exercised (and still do) in previous decades. By contrast, the title that concerns us comes to my hair to show the gradual trivialization of such proposals and alarming devolution over the last thirty years of the average television viewer, given the frugality of these and other products.
Pterodactyl is a TV-movie that is attached gender " dinosaur resurrected humanity attacks" that so many gave us glorious examples in the history of cinema titles starting with those two early (and probably still the best) that are The Lost World ( 1925) and King Kong (1933). However, after the massive release of Jurassic Park the proliferation of large reptiles proliferated more and almost always with very little exciting titles: Tyrannosaurus, Komodo dragons, Pteranodon, Diplodocus ... each prehistoric creature, preferably large and ornery, seems already to have their private capacity and the Pterodactyl no podía ser menos.
The Flying Serpent (Sam Newfield, 1946) and the best known in these parts, Q, The flying snake (Larry Cohen, 1982).
But ignoring these purely technical issues back to the movie that is what it is. Your manager is an old acquaintance, Mark L. Lester, producer and director who had great popularity in the 80's thanks to such familiar titles as 1984 Course , Firestarter (adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same title) Command (with Schwarzenegger and launched into stardom) and Armed and Dangerous . As the Reagan era was fading, Lester products, always with a whiff fastizoide, (he actually in a statement defending mob justice outside the law, as well as trafficking in Extreme Justice , 1993) will be (coincidentally or not) relegated to the direct video market where never left, so far. In fact, in this history of dinosaurs and paleontologists clueless infographics, Lester manages to stick to a U.S. command (in northern Turkey!) in their relentless struggle for harassment and demolition of any terrorist faction. His work here as director is completely and utterly bland, without any pulse, which shows an alarming lack of interest or unwillingness of the work being done. Circumstance that is refuted by the fact that it took five years to put back after a camera but has maintained his tireless work as a producer.
The deal is also gray, with dull Cameron Daddo as the leading paleontologist. Daddo is the kind of players who did not immediately put your name but it sounds to have seen him in many forgettable television products. To take two recent examples, theirs are the protagonists of Category 7: The End of the World or The Exorcism of Isabella, equally mediocre films. His work is so functional that never manages to come to sympathize with her character. Little to highlight the rest of the cast and not the dumb blonde (could not miss such a production) starring Mircea Monroe and provides (at the cost of air anatomy) the rare moments of joy in the film . singer Coolio, who plays the captain of the marines, and the female lead played by Amy Sloan trade meet its functional role.
The script, perpetrated by Mark Sevi , whose credits include unstimulating quarter Ghoulies or our beloved Arachnid (with whom he has several points in common) provides many funny moments thanks to its lack of logic and rigor at all levels. Here Sevi achieved what seemed impossible: that the appearance of a Pterodactyl in our day is the most credible event everything that happens to below. Dialogues embarrassing hidden away, for its part, every little momento de respiro entre los protagonistas. ¡Ah!
And it is also digital effects leave something to be desired, as could not be otherwise in a very low budget production. In fact, any production Harryhausen three or four decades earlier than more realistic (and of course, magic) the interrelationship between real characters and animated creatures.
Despite all this, and to conclude positively, Pterodactyl entertainment can be a frugal yet effective for warm summer evenings we have just around the corner. Everything depends on the standards of the time or how cold it is our beer.
